BULLYING IN TEENAGERS

We all have nick names right? Some of them are for fun and some of them are a bit demeaning? Has it ever happened to you that you weren’t comfortable with the way you were treated? Did you feel like you were put down or had to do thing against your will? Well, these are subtle signs are what we would call Bullying.

Bullying is a very common concept among teenagers because of the peer pressure and the addiction to be cool these days.  But what are the reasons and what is bullying in real sense? Is it the dominant children asking the weaklings to do their chores as shown in the movie or is it something more?

Contrary to utopian beliefs that everyone must help everyone and have universal brotherhood, I am afraid the Darwinian theory  seems more practical. It indeed is a survival of the fittest and that’s why there will always be people who will like to dominate us. Bullying is rooted in this concept and all we can do is fight it.

YOU CANNOT BAN IT, YOU HAVE TO FIGHT IT.

Reasons for bullying are plenty, but in the gist of it, there are only 2. Children who don’t receive enough attention at home or come from troubled home backgrounds have the tendency to bully other people. Secondly, the biggest attractor to bullying is the power dynamics. There are a lot of kids who want to have it all at a young age and want the validation to be supreme. It is only them that get into the practices of bullying.

Bullying can come in different ways. By asking you to do things, by harassing your personal life and sometimes even physical assault. The main question then is how to do you deal with it?

FIRST, DO NOT GIVE INTO IT.

Have you ever seen a butterfly? The cliched metaphor of the caterpillar turning into a butterfly actually holds true in this scenario.  You cannot give into the hostage situation, you need to bloom and fly. That time is what makes the butterfly as beautiful as it is. It’s the same here guys!

When someone tries to bully you, you cannot back down. You have to face it. NOT GIVE IN.

You need to show them they are not your power. YOU ARE YOUR OWN POWER.

If they treat you badly, tell others, speak up and speak to all but don’t remain silent.

Silence is not always golden!

The next and the only possible thing to counter bullying is to understand the other person, grow a thicker skin and if its extreme let the appropriate actions be taken.

Sometimes turning a deaf ear helps and sometimes spreading the noise helps.

THE ONLY THING THAT GETS YOU THROUGH THIS IS…

“ LOVING YOURSELF ENOUGH.”

TURNS OUT, LOVE IS THE ONLY SOLUTION FOR HATRED!
